Do you want to know how to improve your dog’s marking ability? Do you want to get a better structure in your training? Do you want help to get started training the marked retrieves and develop your dog’s marking ability even further? Then this is the course for you!
During the course we will cover all skills that a great marking dog needs to master: focusing forward, steadiness and managing expectations, depth perception, staying in the area and hunt etc. We will also cover different challenges, your part in the marked retrieves and finally some advice on how to teach your dog double marked retrieves and marked retrieves in water.
Prior knowledge
To get the most out of this course, we recommend that your dog is competent with deliveries to hand and has a decent level of steadiness. During the course you will get advice on how to work with the steadiness and the dog’s expectations. However, if you do not have the deliveries in place, it will be difficult to take full advantage of this course. You could switch marked retrieves for food bowls after they’ve landed, but we highly recommend you master deliveries before taking this course. Check out our online course “Five Simple Steps to Master the Perfect Retrieve” if you need to get on top of deliveries. If you notice deliveries becoming problematic or sloppy when you train a lot of marked retrieves, you can just put in a couple of training sessions where you focus on the deliveries before continuing with your marked retrieve training.
The course is based on the same training mindset as the book Retrieving for All Occasions. It is not necessary that you have the book to take this course; although we strongly recommend it as it contains lots of helpful background information as well as an entire chapter on casting and blind retrieves.
Prerequisites
The course starts as soon as you’ve registered.
You have the option to submit videos and questions and get feedback from us for six months. Keep the length of the videos to a maximum of three minutes. We can provide feedback on an unlimited number of videos, just let us know what you want feedback on. You can upload just a couple of videos per training session, or multiple videos of the dog performing a single drill; whatever you feel you need assistance with. Needless to say, if you don’t want to send videos you don’t have to, it is not a requirement for this course. When you’ve registered and paid, you’ll get an automatic confirmation e-mail with a link to the course. Remember to check your spam folder and “other” folder if you can’t find it in your inbox.
